Want to keep your toddlers busy this holiday season? These free printable Christmas alphabet worksheets are a fun way to learn each letter of the alphabet while staying in the holiday spirit.
As a mom of three toddlers, engaging in screen-free activities is essential, especially during the winter months. To keep my toddlers entertained, I created these Christmas alphabet worksheets and wanted to share them with fellow parents.
This Christmas alphabet activity helps kids learn to write both lowercase letters and uppercase letters by providing a guided example of each letter, along with space for practice.
Benefits of the Christmas Alphabet Worksheets
- Improve Fine Motor Skills: When your child traces each letter, it strengthens hand muscles and enhances hand-eye coordination, both of which are essential for writing.
- Prepares for Writing: Tracing prepares children for writing by teaching them the proper strokes and movements needed to form each letter.
- Letter Recognition: Tracing these letters helps your child recognize their shapes and develop an understanding of how to form each one.
- Learning sounds: by saying the sounds of each letters it helps children understand how letters and words are connected. By saying the sounds of each letter, children can better understand how letters and words are connected. Additionally, saying the names of the adorable illustrations next to each letter helps them associate the sound with the letter itself. Some of these charming illustrations include Santa Claus, candy canes, Christmas tree, Christmas ornaments, and more.
These free printables are perfect for younger children, including preschool students, kindergarten students, and even first grade students. Don’t be surprised if older children enjoy doing the holiday worksheets to help their younger siblings. You can also incorporate these into your lesson plans if you’re a homeschooling family.

Printable Alphabet Letters For Christmas Activities
Below are some easy ways that you can use the printable Christmas worksheets to create hands-on activities that your kids will enjoy.
Trace and Writing Practice
Activity: Have your child trace the letters of the alphabet on the worksheet using a pencil or marker. After tracing, encourage them to try writing the letters independently. For multiple uses, you can laminate the sheets or place them in a plastic sleeve and have your child use a dry-erase marker.
How It Helps: Tracing helps your child learn the correct formation of letters, which in turn improves their writing skills. Repeated tracing reinforces muscle memory in your child’s hand, making it easier for them to eventually write independently.
Letter Recognition
Activity: Use the printable alphabet letters for a recognition game where your child identifies and names each letter before tracing it. You can go through the letters in alphabetical order or mix up the order for an added challenge. Additionally, encourage your child to say the word associated with the illustration next to each letter, and ask them to come up with another word that begins with that letter.
How it helps: This activity promotes letter recognition and helps your child connect letters to their corresponding sounds, which is crucial for reading development.
Coloring the Letters
Activity: Have your child trace the letter, then let them color it with crayons or markers. To make it more fun, challenge them to use a specific color for each letter.
How it Helps: Coloring helps kids pay attention to the shapes of the letters and also strengthens their hand control.
These Crayola Ultra Clean Washable Crayons are perfect for little toddler hands, I keep about 3 boxes at home. I also love these Ooly Thick Washable Markers that are great for toddlers and are also made with washable ink so clothes doesn’t stay stained. My son is 3 years old and he really enjoyed tracing and sounding out each of the letters. These worksheets are also helping him with his pencil grip and to recognize each of the letters. He was extra excited about these printables because we had just put up our Christmas Tree so it made him even more excited about the holiday season.
Letter Sound Practice:
Activity: After tracing the letters, have your child say the sound each letter makes, or match the letter to something that starts with that sound. For example, A is for Apple.
How it Helps: This helps your child connect letters to their sounds, which is the first step in learning to read.
Make the letters using play dough or different tools
Activity: After using the Christmas letter worksheets to trace the letters, have your child make the letters with playdough, or they can cut out the letter shapes from construction paper.
How it helps: This lets your child feel the shape of the letter, which helps them remember it more easily.
This Play-Doh Bulk Case in assorted colors is a must at our home. We use play-doh for so many of our literacy activities and my children have such a fun time. These Play-Doh tools are great for hands-on activities because they let kids cut and shape the Play-Doh.
Create a Sentence
Activity: Encourage your child to make a sentence using words that start with that letter. For example, C is for car and cat.
How it helps: Doing these printable activities will help your child learn new words and connect letters to sentences, which is a great way to kickstart language development.
Create a Memory Game
Activity: Use some alphabet cards, and after your child traces each letter on the Christmas alphabet printable, ask them to match the letter card with an object that starts with that letter.
How it Helps: This is a fun way to practice remembering letter names and sounds.
Trace and Compare
Activity: Ask your child to compare uppercase and lowercase letters. After they trace the letters have them tell you about the differences in the letters.
